Suggested itinerary: Thailand and Cambodia in 30 days for independent travellers

Day 1: Arrival in Bangkok

Arrival at Bangkok International Airport. Transfer to your hotel. Walk through the city centre. Night in Bangkok. 

Day 2: Bangkok: the temples, the Chao Phraya River and Chinatown

In the morning explore the Grand Palace and the city’s main temples: Emerald Buddha, Reclining Buddha (Wat Phra Chethupon) and the Dawn Temple (Wat Arun). In the afternoon hire a boat to explore the city’s channels (khlongs). After sunset, have a bear at the popular Khaosan Road and have dinner in Chinatown. Night in Bangkok.

Day 3: Bangkok: Chatuchak Market and Siam’s shopping area

Visit Jim Thomson’s House and then, go to the Chatuchak market to have lunch (weekends only, if not in weekend, take a Thai cuisine course instead). In the afternoon, explore the Siam commercial area. Night in Bangkok.

Day 4: Bangkok: the floating markets

Today, have a day trip to one of floating markets outside the city (Damnoen Saduak, Amphawa, Taling Chan…). Night in Bangkok.

Day 5: Flight to Siem Reap

Dedicate the day to fly to Siem Reap. Night in Siem Reap.

Day 6: Angkor Watt

Rent a tuk tuk and make the long circuit, visiting: Banteay Srey, Ta Som, East Mebon, Neak Pean and Preah Khan. See the sunset from Phnom Bakheng. Night in Siem Reap.

Day 7: Angkor Watt

Rent a tuk tuk or bicicle and make the short circuit, visiting temples like Angkor Thom, Bayon and Ta Prohm. See the sunset from the wonderful Angkor Temple. Night in Siem Reap.

Day 8: Chiang Mai

Take a flight from Siem Reap to Chiang Mai. Visit the city temples in the afternoon and walk through the night market. Dinner in one of the restaurants placed on the banks of the river. Night in Chiang Mai.

Day 9: Trekking in Chiang Mai

One of the most popular activities in Chiang Mai is going trekking through the jungle. In your first day, you’ll visit an Elephant camp, and will walk through the jungle passing several waterfalls. Spend the night in a Karen village. 

Day 10: Chiang Mai: the indigenous villages

On your second day of trekking, you will visit another Karen village, where you will have lunch. More trekking in the afternoon up to a waterfall. Spend the night in a bamboo camp in the jungle. 

Day 11: Chiang Mai: swim in waterfalls and bamboo rafting

This day you will trek to another waterfall. In the afternnon, visit a Shan village where you will go down Win river on a bamboo raft. Overnight in Chiang Mai.

Day 12: Pai

Go to the bohemian village of Pai, visiting its Memorial Bridge and its hotsprings. See the sunset from Pai Canyon. Night in Pai. 

Day 13: Pai: Lod Cave

Visit the spectacular caves of Tham Lod, which are crossed by Nam Lang River. Back in Pai, enjoy a beautiful sunset from Phra That Mae Yen Temple. Night in Pai.

Day 14: Pai and Chiang Mai

Start your way back to Chiang Mai, where you can anjoy the afternoon taking a yoga class or a Thai massage. Next morning you’ll have to wake up early to take a flight. Night in Chiang Mai.

Day 15: Krabi

Take a flight from Chiang Mai to Krabi. Night in Railay Beach.

Day 16: Railay Beach

Explore Railay beaches: Tonsai, Railay West, Phra Nang y Railay East. Climb up to the Phra Nang viewpoint, to enjoy stunning views of the península. Night in Railay Beach. 

Day 17: Krabi islands

Take a tour to visit the 4 most popular islands in the krabi coast: Koh Gai (the chicken island), Koh Tup, Koh Mor and Koh Poda. Night in Railay Beach.

Day 18: Hong Islands

This day, enhoy the wonderful and inhabited Hong Islands, an archipielago formed by 12 little islans, with hidded lagoons, caves and stunning beaches. Night in Railay Beach.

Day 19: Phi Phi Islands

Today, take a ferryto Phi Phi Don fromthere. Have a walkthroughTonsaivillage and goto Phi PhiLeh in theafternoon. Night in Phi Phi Don.

Day 20: Phi PhiIslands: Phi Phi Don, Mosquito Island and Bamboo Island.

Climbup to Phi Phi view point to get the best views over the island. Afterwords, rent a long tail boat to visit the northern beaches of theisland, Mosquito Island and Bamboo Island. Night in Phi Phi Don.

Day 21: From Phi Phi to Koh Pangan

Trip from Phi Phi Islands to Koh Phangan. Night in Koh Phangan

Day 22: Koh Phangan: Northern and Western beaches

Visit Haad Khuat (Bottle beach), and stop at Haad Khom for ono of the best snorquelling spots in the island. Have lunch in Chaloklum Bay. In the afternoon, visit Haad Mae Haad and do some snorquel at Koh Ma island. See the sunset in any of the western beaches. Night in Koh Phangan.

Day 23: Koh Phangan: Eastern beaches

Start the day swiming and sun bathing at Thong Nai Pan beaches. Explore Haad Than Sadet beaches in the afternoon. Have a cocktail in Haad Rin watching the sunset. Have dinner at Ban Tai. Night in Koh Phangan.

Day 24: Koh Phangan: Haad Rin and Haad Yuan

Day 25: Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan

Take the ferry to Koh Tao. Leave your luggage in the hotel and then take a longtail boat to Koh Nang Yuan. Back in Koh Tao, see the sunset at Sairee Beach and have dinner at one of its restaurants. Night in Koh Tao.

Day 26: Koh Tao: boat trip around the island

Hire a longtail boat and visit the best beaches and snorquel spots around the island. In the afternoon, treck up to John-Suwan viewpoint and see the sunset at Chalok Baak Khao. Night in Koh Tao.

Day 27: Koh Samui

Take the ferry from Koh Tao to Koh Samui. Leave your luggage in the hotel and then go to one of the best beaches in the island, Chaweng, and walk around, sunbathe, swim and practice watersports. At night have dinner at the fishing village of Bophut. Night in Koh Samui.

Day 28: Koh Samui: back to the island

Hire a car or a motorbike. Trip around the island and visit Big Budha, Wat Plai Laem, the Chaweng viewpoint, the Cristal Bay beach, Lamai, the Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks, the Mummified monk and the Na Muang waterfalls. See the sunsent at Lipa Noi.

Day 29: Back to Bangkok

Dedicate the day to come back to Bangkok. If your flight is late at night, go back to Bangkok the same day you fly. Night in Bangkok.

Day 30: Flight back home

Go shopping, see pending attractions and go to the airport to take your flight back home.
