What to see in Taipei:
Ranking of the 10 best things to see in Taipei:
- Taipei 101: For years the tallest building on earth, this architectural marvel is the most recognizable feature of the city and the country. You can see it from outside or go up to its observatory to admire the views of the city and its huge swinging ball that makes this huge building typhoon and earthquake proof.
- Chiang Kai Sek Memorial: Although not everyone agrees in their love for the controversial president / dictator of Taiwan, it must be recognized that his memorial is an authentic architectural gem, a small Taj Mahal in the middle of the city.
- Longshan Temple: the most beautiful temple in the city and one of the most popular. Here you can enjoy the architecture but also witness the religious rituals of the Taiwanese.
- Ximending: neon signs, big screens, shops, restaurantsâ?¦ the true heart of Asia.
- Huashan 1914 Creative Park: This former sake distillery has been restored and converted into a leisure, commercial and artistic area. One of our favorite places in Taipei!
- Dihua Street, one of the oldest streets in the city. Here you can see buildings from the times of the Japanese occupation. Especially lively on weekends when it is pedestrianized and is filled with locals who come to walk.
- National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, the memorial itself is nothing special, but it is an ideal spot to take wonderful photos of Taipei 101.
- Confucius Temple and Dalongdong Baoan Temple: these two temples located very close to each other, are a great representation of both religious currents. We love the first one because it has a good explanation of Confucianism and the origin of Chinese writing. The second is an architectural gem.
- Shifen: an interesting town accessible by train from Taipei, where in addition to beautiful waterfalls, you can participate in the traditional throwing of lanterns and watch the train pass through the very center of town.
- Jiufen: Accessible by bus from Taipei, this wonderful town is known for its night market that winds around town, and for its incredible views over the sea.
