Yehliu Geopark:

Yehliu

Yehliu Geopark is a cape about 1.7km long, which was formed when seismic movements pushed the Datun Mountains out to the sea. It is made up of hoodoo rocks, which are easily erodible and have taken curious shapes over time. And this is something Taiwanese love! Find similarities between the rocks. The most famous is undoubtedly the "Head of the Queen", which has become one of the icons of Taiwan. But you can also find the “Fairy Shoe”, the “Beehive”, the “Ginger Rocks” or the “Sea Candles” (sea candles). At the entrance of the park there is a replica of the head of the Queen, which they call the Head of the Princess. To avoid excessive erosion they have protected the original, so you can take photos with the other.

When you pay the tickets, you will enter a path where you will see the replica of the "Queen's Head". Then you will arrive at the rocky area next to the sea. Although it does not have the most famous rocks, we love the first area on the left. If you go with children, they will love to run there. Then cross the strait, and you will pass through the area of the most recognizable rocks. To see the queen's you have to do a bit of a queue, but you can take it for a spin.

When you pass this area, you will come to a bar that says "Recreation Area". From here there is a trail to Turtle Head Mountain, passing by the Yehliu Lighthouse. At the end there is a viewpoint with beautiful views of the sea. At a normal pace it is half an hour walking, but the truth is that in summer it can be hard because there is no shade at all. If you like to walk, do it, but if you don't feel like it, you won't miss a thing.

If it is summer, take your swimsuit, because there are some beaches in the area (not that they are wonderful, but the water is always refreshing).

Hours: 08.00-17.00

How to get there: the most comfortable way is to go in your own car (40min), but you can also get there by bus (1h15min, 90 NTD). 1815 leaves Taipei Station, 1815A-C-D goes through Zhongxiao and 1815B goes through Nanjing.
