Xinzhuang is a neighborhood in New Taipei City, to the west of Taipei. If you are expatriates in Taipei and you have children, it is a good plan for Saturday or Sunday.
Take the yellow line and get off at the stop of the same name (Xinzhuang). Right there you have a Youbike station in case your kids are old enough to take a big bike. If not, in 5 minutes you will be at the Xisheng Huanbao Riverside Park and taking a walk of 10 minutes more, you will reach the typical FunBike bike rental site.
If you keep pedaling south you will reach Xinyuezujie Station. Here you have up to three things to see, all related to the air: flying kites, spectacular parrots of private people who take them to stretch their wings and, above all, a miniature airplane airport.
Incredible to see the flights, especially the propellers and the jets that look like toys (but they can be scary!).
But be careful, it is usually very windy and there is not much shade so it is better to always come on a temperate day so as not to be cold, nor to roast in the sun!
On the way back, you can see and walk along the interesting Crescent Bridge.
To eat, if they have not yet moved to Banqiao, you have Pa él y Pa ella. Great black rice made by a guy from Alicante who embarked on an adventure after living in London. Try the first-class escalivada too. If you prefer something simpler, go to the beautiful Naked Chef and have curious hamburgers and hotdogs with fries and a good beer.
If you get late, the stalls at the Xin-zhuang Miaojie night market start to open at 4pm. Nothing special to eat other than the typical Taipei night markets food. Of course, there are two good izakayas in the neighborhood, Moduo and Yamatsuki, if you go with children, the latter is better.
