The Temple of Debod is an ancient Egyptian temple situated to the west of Plaza de España, next to Paseo del Pintor Rosales and Parque del Oeste. It was a gift from Egypt to Spain in 1968, an expression of gratitude for the Spanish aid received in response to the international call by UNESCO to save the temples of Nubia, mainly the Temple of Abu Simbel, which was in danger of disappearing due to the construction of the Aswan Dam. After being transferred to Spain, the temple was situated in such a way as to replicate its orientation in its place of origin, that is, from east to west. The viewpoint in the gardens offers a panoramic view of the city extending from Casa de Campo to the peaks of the Guadarrama mountain range. The best views are at sunset (check for sunset times here).
If you arrive with time to spare before sunset, you can walk through nearby Oeste Park or have something to eat or drink at the one of the cafes on Paseo Pintor Rosales.
