- Brief description: The Old Mosque, today the Cathedral of Córdoba, is the most important monument in the Islamic west and one of the most breathtaking in the entire world. It consists of two differentiated areas. The first is the arcaded courtyard, where Muslims performed their ablutions before entering the temple and where the minaret stood for calling the faithful to prayer (under the current Renaissance tower). Even more amazing is the haram, or prayer chamber, inside. This space includes a series of two-coloured columns and arcades that produce an impressive chromatic effect. The side chapel is very interesting. It is the only area on the premises that the Catholics re-decorated in a Renaissance style, which makes for an arresting difference of styles.
