- Brief description: Site of the discovery of the Virgin in 880 A.D. Legend has it that one Saturday at dusk, some shepherd children saw a bright light descend from the sky, accompanied by a beautiful melody, and alight halfway up the mountain. After several weeks and repeated visions, they found a cave in which they discovered the image of Santa María. They tried moving it to Manresa, but, despite their strenuous efforts, were unable to move it, which they took as a sign of divine will that the image was to be venerated in the mountain of Montserrat. The chapel seems to be suspended in the air, integrating architecture and nature. On the altar is a reproduction of the original image (the actual one is kept in the basilica).
