Gamcheon Cultural Village:

Gamcheon Cultural Village

Brief description: Gamcheon Culture Village is a neighborhood located on a hill overlooking the sea. Populated mainly by people with few resources and refugees from the Korean War, one day its inhabitants decided to reinvent the neighborhood, fill it with color and art. To do this, they invited artists from all over the country to their homes, who in exchange for accommodation and food painted their facades and made various sculptures. The result is a wonderful maze of narrow streets, full of colorful houses and surprises around every corner. It is best to get lost in its streets, and above all to leave the main street that is full of tourists. Whenever you see a fish on the walls, it points to something interesting. We give you a small route so you do not miss anything famous (you have it geolocated in the app), but do not forget to explore any street that calls your attention! You can also go to the information office at the entrance of the villa, and buy a map of the neighborhood for 2,000W. There they indicate a route on foot and there is space for stamps that are located along the walking route. It can be fun especially if you go with children!

Our recommended route through Gamcheon Cultural Village: start the route at the entrance and go up the main street. Soon you can see the large mural of fish on the right (Fish Swimming Through The Alley). A little further on, go up the stairs on the right hand side to the viewpoint, here you will have views of the entire villa. Go down the street again and continue walking. When the street turns to the left, you will see on the right the angel's mural, where you can take pictures as if you had wings. Continue the whole street until you reach the sculpture of the Little Prince and the Fox (long lines are formed to take the picture with him looking at the sea :-). In this area you also have very interesting viewpoints. From here, you can go down and start exploring the neighborhood. In the middle area, you will find the monument of the Guitar, and a little below, the viewpoint of the "Stairs to see stars" (which does not refer to anything astronomical, but to the feeling the neighbors had when having to climb the stairs:-). Down below, you have the nice Gamcheon 2-dong Traditional Market and behind it a beautiful Korean temple.

Duration of the visit: 2-3h.

Hours: you can visit at any time, but we recommend doing it in the morning to have good light.

Cost: free.

How to get there: take the subway to Toseong Station (line 1). Use exit 6 and the Saha 1-1, Seogu 2, or Seogu 2-2 bus to the Gamcheon Elementary School Bus stop.
