- Brief description: another of Tokyo's famous districts, full of skyscrapers, shops and, mainly, offices. Head for its metro/train station, Tokyo's busiest, and wander around among the huge buildings. We recommend a visit to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building from where there is free access to an observatory with splendid views over the whole city. You can go up both towers (their views are different), although if you do not have the time or inclination, we recommend the South tower. Very close by, you will find Kabuki-cho, Japan's largest red light district. It comes to life daily after 18:00, and especially so on Fridays and Saturdays. It features countless restaurants, bars, "pachinko" parlours (kind of a slot machine), love hotels and a wide variety of red light establishments for both sexes and sexual orientations. Explore with caution and beware of exorbitant cover fees.
- Duration of visit: 2-3 hrs including a walk through the district and going up the towers.
- Opening times: the towers are open every day, the North tower from 9.30 to 11.00, and the South tower until 17.30. The North tower closes on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month and the South tower on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.
- Cost: free.
- How to get there: take the Yamanote line to Shinjuku station (15 min. by train and covered by the JRP (150¥ without JRP).
