- Brief description: park to commemorate the people who died when the atom bomb was dropped. Prior to the attack, the site of the park was Hiroshima's political and financial centre. It features both a Museum, which provides details of all the events, and several commemorative monuments. The only building in the zone to remain standing can also be seen in the park. the Museum is very well worth a visit, as is a walk through the park to see the different monuments and groups of children paying tribute to the dead.
- Duration of visit: 2-3 hrs.
- Observation: Once in the museum, you can arrange a local guide to show you the park for free. They are volunteer citizens that do so in order to practice languages (specially English).
- Opening times: 8.30-18.00 (until 19.00 in August and 17.00 from December to February)
- Cost: 200¥ to entry the museum. There is an audio-guide but it is not recommended (the information can also be read on the informative panels).
- How to get there: a 10-min. walk from the hotel. On leaving, turn left and take the first large street on the left. Cross the bridge and the park is on the right. If you are staying at another hotel, you can use the Sightseeing Loop Bus, which is covered by your JRP (if you don't have it, just buy it on board, it really cheap. Check their website to see the stops.
