- Brief description: Torcello is a picturesque island that is only 5min from Burano. If you are not very tired of walking, it is worth paying a visit (if your feet burn, it is better to skip it, since you have to walk a little). Oddly enough, it became the most populated island of the Venetian Republic, when the attacks of the Huns and the Lombards made them flee the peninsula. Today it is a semi-abandoned island, to which some are going to marry in the purest Italian style.
- Recommended route: get off the boat and take the curious path that will take you to the town square, along a canal. If you go with children, stop in the first tavern that you will see on the left, since it has a beautiful garden with games for children, rabbits, goats ... great to have a beer (and an ice cream for them: -). Continue the road to the end and cross the bridge that takes you to the town square. There, the first thing you will see will be the Throne of Attila. Legend has it that it was the marble throne of the famous king of the Huns ... and in front of it, not one but two churches: The Basilica of Santa Maria dell'Assunta (with its Byzantine mosaics from the 12th and 13th centuries) and the Church of Santa Fosca, noted for its pentagonal portico. Once the visit is finished, return to the vaporetto stop and take line 12 or N to Venice.
- How to get there: line 12, 9 or N of vaporetto from Burano (5min).
- Duration of the visit: 1h.
