The Grand Cannal

Venecia

The best way to get to know the Grand Canal and its marvelous palaces is by vaporetto. The route from Salute station to Santa Stae station will allow you to see most of the great jewels of the city. Most of these palaces house museums inside, although we see more interesting to enjoy their facades. Taking the boat in Salute, these are the main palaces that you will see:

  • Ca 'Rezzonico: past the Ponte dell'Academia, a little further on the left, is one of the most famous palaces in the city, both for the beauty of its facade, and for the illustrious guests it has had along history (the most famous being Pope Clement XIII).
  • Palazzo Giustinian: a little further on the left, you will find one of the best representations of Venetian Gothic.
  • Ca 'd'Oro: past the Rialto Bridge, once past the curve and on the right, you will see what is perhaps the most beautiful palace in the canal. Its Gothic-Renancentist facade was originally covered with gold leaf (hence its name).
  • Ca 'Pesaro: a little further on the left, you will find one of the best representations of the Venetian baroque. This palace houses the International Gallery of Modern Art, and if you have days to spare, inside you can see works by Kandinsky, Klee or Klimt.
