The Chianti area is very famous for its wines and for its scenery, although its towns are not as interesting as in other parts of Tuscany. For this reason we advise a leisurely approach so that you can take in the scenery and stop off at any interesting vineyards that you see on the way.
Directions: take Viale Fratelli Rosselli (SS67) and when you reach the roundabout at the Piazza della Liberta, turn right and continue 5km by SS67. Then turn right into Via Marco Polo (signs for Bagno A Ripoli / Siena) and continue on this road for about 3km. Later take the exit towards SS222 Ema / Greve / Siena. Continue along the SS222 for about 32 km, passing through towns like Strada in Chianti, Chiocchio, Greve ... Past Pieve di Panzano, you will see a fork in the SS222. Take SP2bis on the left (Strada Provinciale 2a) towards Lucarelli. Continue 10.5km and then take the SS429. About 5km later you will see a detour to Castello di San Donato in Perano. 1h30min it will take you nonstop.
For a lunch time treat we recommend the Osteria Le Braci, a marvellous brasserie in the middle of the countryside and with one of the best views that we have seen anywhere in Tuscany and with superb food and wine. It is in San Donato in Perano, between Radda in Chianti and Gaiole in Chianti. If you are not that hungry, have a Affettati Misti (8€),but if you do want to eat, the grilled lamb and beef are splendid (15€). As for the wine, we recommend a glass of Classic Chianti (3€).
