Montalcino is a larger town than the previous one. Highlights are the views and they say that its most popular wine, Brunello di Montalcino, is one of the best in the world. No wonder then that it costs a hefty 30€ in restaurants. If you are hungry, a great option is to stop to eat in Boccon di Sino, a restaurant on the slope rising into the town. Its terrace is very pleasant with wonderful views (closed on Tuesday. Opens from 12.30-14.00 and from 19.30-21.30). Another good idea in the same town is the Osticcio restaurant (there are inside tables with views). Don´t miss out on a visit to the Piazza del Popolo, and the Duomo. By car you can reach the Madonna del Soccorso Viewpoint which has breathtaking views.
To get there: continue along the146 until it changes to the SR2. Follow the signs for Montalcino. 30 minutes from Pienza.
