- Brief description: The Scala Square is dominated by the Teatro alla Scala (La Scala Opera House) and by the Palazzo Marino, currently the seat of Milan City Hall. The Palazzo Marino is an architectural masterpiece in the Doric and Ionic style of the XVIth century, and is considered to be the most beautiful private palace in the city. The Teatro alla Scala is one of the world´s most famous opera houses. It was the first historic building to be reconstructed after the bombardments of 1943 and can boast of the privilege of having been the site of many famous opera first nights and of having kept a very close relationship with the composer Giuseppe Verdi.
