On the way back from Florence, stop in Montecatini Alto, a pretty Tuscan town. Carry on until you reach Florence and go straight to the Piazzale di Michelangelo, where there are some spectacular views of the city. To get there, once you have arrived in Florence, head for the Roman Gate and take the Viale Niccolò Machiavelli which later becomes the Viale Galileo. This street takes us directly to the Piazzale Michelangelo. It is also well worth going up to visit the hermitage which is on the top of the mountain.
After having enjoyed the views, you can go down for an aperitif at the café La Torre, close to the Piazza Giuseppe Poggi (descending by car along the Viale Michelangiolo). For 6€ you will get a glass of wine and a free buffet of Italian tapas (from 09.00-23.00. Closes on Tuesdays).
