Tonight we recommend strolling about the pleasant area of the French Concession. This neighbourhood of small houses is filled with restaurants, trendy shops and lots of charm. To get there, take the metro, get off at the South Shangxi Rd stop, and on this street start walking north. In addition to South Shangxi Rd, Xin Le Road (on the left at the beginning of Shangxi) and Xin Xian Road (on the right towards the end of Shang Xi) are also quite interesting. In any event, wandering through this area is genuinely delightful!
For dinner you can go to the sophisticated The Chinoise Story. It is considered one of the best Chinese food restaurants in Shanghai, but that's not why we recommend it. Rather it's a perfect place to "observe" China's nouveau riche (leave your tee-shirts and gym shoes at the hotel). The fried dumplings, spring rolls and chef's rice with fish are all excellent. It's located on Maoming Street, at the intersection of Changle. Dishes are about 50-60CNY each (the portions are somewhat small) and dinner will run you about 180CNY per person.
