- Brief description: in spite of the fact that China is officially an atheist country, it is filled with Buddhist remains, once the majority religion. Jade Buddha Temple is the most interesting Buddhist temple in Shanghai. The most interesting rooms are: the Grand Hall of Magnificence, which houses three statues depicting Buddha in different forms and the twenty arhats, guardians of Buddhism; the Jade Buddha Chamber, which contains an image of a seated Buddha that weighs three tons and is 1.95 metres tall; and the Hall of Reclining Buddha, which represents the death of Buddha. Inside the temple you can see another reclining Buddha donated by Singapore, but don't confuse it with the original!
