At the end of Nanjing Street is the Bund, considered the symbol of Shanghai for the last 200 years. Walking along the western bank of the river, you can see on the other side the skyline and the towers of Oriental Pearl TV and Jin Mao Tower. You will also see the Shanghai Tower (632m), the second tallest building in the world until 2015.
But the most famous vista of the Bund is from the other side. To see it, you'll need to cross the river (you can do this via the curious Tourist Tunnel for 45CNY or the regular bridge). Once on the other side, we recommend going up to the top of Oriental Pearl Tower (120CNY - 220CNY / 8:30 to 21:30) for the impressive views. From there you can see on the eastern bank a group of 52 buildings of different architectural styles (Gothic, Baroque, Romantic, Classical, Renaissance).
