In our opinion, this is one of the most beautiful cities in the world! Filled with canals and bridges, it's especially breathtaking at night, when hundreds of Chinese lanterns are lit. Countless little shops sell souvenirs, clothes, costume jewellery, etc. at very low prices (don't forget to bargain!).
While the city boasts many tourist attractions, frankly they are not very remarkable. The thing to do in Lijiang is to stroll about and explore its many charming nooks and crannies! You'll have to pay a tax for the "preservation of Lijiang Old City". It's 80CNY and can be paid at the hotel or at one of the tourist attractions (save the receipt as you might be asked for it at tourist spots).
