- Brief description: in this building you can see the embalmed remains of the top Communist leader, Mao Zedong, president of the People's Republic of China from 1949 until his death in 1976. If you're interested in learning more about this controversial leader, responsible for carrying out, among other things, the Cultural Revolution, we recommend two interesting books in the section entitled General Information. His tomb is a pilgrimage destination for many Chinese, and the reaction of some upon seeing Mao's remains is often startling. If you want to enter, just stay on the line to wait for your turn. Wear appropiate clothes and shoes (flip flops won't be admited). Be very respectful and keep your voice low.
