- Brief description: Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world. Its landscapes, beaches, forest and animals make it a very popular destination inside Australia. Lodging on the island is very expensive, and the cheapest options are generally of poor quality. For this reason we recommend taking the day tour out of Hervey Bay and exploring the island this way.
- Hours: depends on the company, but they'll pick you up at the hotel in the morning.
- Prices: if you travel from July to October (whale season) we recommend buying from the same company the package that includes the whale watching cruise the first day and the trip to Fraser Island the following day. But if you travel off season, you can still have a great day in the island.
- Our preferred company is Spirit of Hervey Bay. They have very good tours along the island, including the inner side and the beaches. They offer different tours based on the number od people and extras (179-265 AU$). The Experience Tour is very correct (180 AU$, max 16 pax). But if you can afford it, go for the Hummer Day (265 AU$, max 4 pax). All packs include food and hotel transfers.
- Other options are Whalesong and Tasman Venture. Whilst their combined tours with whale watching include a very comprehensive visit to the island, the island only tour is quite limited (is more a cruise that includes snorkelling on the beach and BBQ in the vessel). So we don't recommend them this time.
